5 Tips to Get the Best Scent from Your Candles

I want to let you in on a few secrets to help you get the best scent from your candles. Although burning a candle is inherently simple (light, burn, extinguish), there are a few extra things you can do to make your candles last longer and smell even better.

KROOD candles burn for up to 80 hours when lit and maintained properly. You deserve to maximize that time, so you can enjoy every possible second of your luxurious candle experience! That means more self-care days, longer romantic evenings, and greater peace of mind knowing that your space feels exactly the way you want it to.

How to Properly Burn a Candle

Learn how to properly burn a candle with these 5 tips:

  1. Use the Correct Candle Size

Your candle should be proportionate to the room it’s in. For example, a small 2-6-ounce candle is best suited for a bathroom or entry way, while a medium 7-10-ounce candle is perfect for a large bedroom. A large 16-ounce candle, like a candle from KROOD, will fill an entire room with your favorite scent.

  1. Trim the Wick

Trim the candlewick to about a quarter inch every time you light it. This helps ensure the flame doesn’t get too large, which can cause uneven melting. Trimming the wick also helps produce a clean burn with less soot and can prevent the wick from curling into the wax.

  1. Burn Longer

It’s recommended to only burn candles when you’ll be home for at least two hours. The flames need enough time to melt the top layer of wax completely – this is especially important when burning a candle for the first time. An even melt will prevent tunneling, increase the scent’s reach, and make your candle last longer. Because KROOD candles are large, we recommend burning for 3-4 hours each time you light your favorite scent.

  1. Rotate Candles

We know that you want to enjoy your KROOD candle scents from the time you wake up until you go to bed. However, burning any candle for too long can weaken the fragrance over time. We recommend extinguishing the flame once there is a half-inch of melted wax and then switching to a different candle. You’ll never have to go without your signature scent if you always have a backup ready to go!

  1. Keep Away from Fans and Vents

Fans and vents may cause the candle flame to dance around. While the flickering can be a beautiful sight, dancing flames affect the overall burn quality. You might notice that your wax doesn’t melt evenly, there is too much smoke, or the fragrance doesn’t throw as far. A steady flame will produce a clean, even burn and a scent that fills the room.
